FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND |

One night I had a dream.
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with you.
Across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to me, and the other to you.

When the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life there was only one set of footprints.

I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life.
This really bothered me and I questioned you about it:
"You said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

And you replied:
"My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
800 unpublished 19th-century Venetian drawings | From December 19 2009 to April 11 2010

The Civic Museum Foundation of Venice is presenting a collection of 19th-century Venetian drawings at the Correr Museum.

It consists of many primarily unpublished works of great importance by Giacomo Favretto, Giacomo Guardi, Luigi Querena , the Fleming François Vervloet, Ippolito Caffi and Eugenio Bosa. The drawings, which were conceived and produced in Venice, provide a portrait of the thousand facets of the city on the lagoon. The Venice they represent is both modern and ancient, distracted and suffering, dynamic and vital, all at the same time. They cast light on Venice's monumental and social aspects in the 19th century, with an emphasis on the fascination that has always distinguished it.
