4 January 2016
We spent three nights at this hotel over New Year 2015/2016 and were very impressed. The location is perfect - very close to St Mark's Square and very near to the nearest Vaporetto stop of Giglio. Our room was perfect, not enormous, but extremely well equipped; comfortable king size bed, good size flat screen TV, plenty of storage and a very well equipped bathroom. Loads of fresh (really fluffy) towels delivered daily.
The staff were really amazing - so friendly and helpful, with a really positive attitude. The reception staff could not have been more helpful, the bar staff were helpful and cheerful and the cleaning staff always said a cheery hello.
Breakfast is good - not the best - but there is plenty of choice and the staff are happy to make as many decent coffees for you as you wish, if you don't like the standard offering in the percolator.
A small criticism we had was that the bar (which is open to the public too and a very pleasant place) was frequently closed. It doesn't open until 5.30pm and then closes again at midnight, so no nightcap possible. Also, on New Year's Eve night it was closed in the evening for a staff party. However, to be fair, they had offered a free buffet (which looked very good) to guests earlier in the evening.
We were planning a vaporetto trip to Murano one day and enquired about prices. Stefano of Reception advised us of a free water taxi being sent by a Glass Company for other guests and arranged for us to share it - we appreciated this greatly.
Also, on our last day, our flight wasn't until 10pm in the evening and check out time was at 11am. Again, the ever helpful Stefano arranged for us to keep the room until the evening, as it wasn't needed.
Would we stay there again? Definitely and would recommend it to anyone going to Venice who is looking for a clean, comfortable, friendly hotel at a reasonable price. The building is quite grand too, being an old palace and is accessible from the canal at the back. Lots of antiques inside in display cases and also a great log burner in the lounge!
