“Awesome stay and close to everything! Loved this place..can't wait to go back” - Austin, Texas - 25 lug 2010
We stayed here in Nov of 09. Now I found them online using Tripadvisor as I do all our hotels and oh what a lovely surprise. The staff was courteous and our room was very spacious and clean. We faced the front with a courtyard below and right outside the front door you can walk to the vaporetto. We took a private water taxi to our hotel and they dropped us right off at the door!! Just up the way is Saint Mark's square not very far at all (maybe three city blocks)... we just stumbled upon it taking the street out the front door of the hotel. Tons of shops and places to eat although a lot of the places seem to shut down early as most of the city. The bar at the hotel was great, as well as the breakfast. I would def. recommend this hotel and we look forward to going back. They also had wi-fi for two Euros and I had no problem getting on. Can't wait to go back. Venice is a wonderful city.

“Wonderful surprise” - Nanaimo, Canada - 25 lug 2010
The staff were excellent! My spouse and I shared the attic room with our 10-year old daughter. Jacuzzi tub, bidet and a king size bed. Outside the room was a staircase to a beautiful terrace, overlooking the rooftops of Venice. Great location, surprisingly good breakfast. Additional story about the Countess and the hotel's history as a villa made it even more interesting. Location was really convenient too - close to the Vaporetto -- took 35 minutes to get there but that was okay. Great restaurants about the area. Our fourth trip to Venice and I would stay there again.

“Great Hotel, Great Location” - Princeton, New Jersey - 22 lug 2010
I loved this hotel! It is clean, well located, and inexpensive. The hotel staff are pleasant, and the breakfast buffet was excellent. I highly recommend the Hotel Ala.

“Look no further” - Edmonton, Canada - 18 lug 2010
This is was the best hotel I stayed at during my 3 weeks in Italy. Perfectly located and easy to get to by Vaporetto, just 5 minute walk to St. Mark's square. Good size single room (by European standards), great staff, wonderful bar, good breakfast. Mostly important the hotel and room were well air-conditioned (a must for the hot and muggy climate in July). And the "pay in advance" room rate I got via the internet was dirt cheap. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

“Great location, good service, and great value”- Bellevue, Washington 16 lug 2010
The Ala Hotel in Venice was a great find. Located minutes from San Marco Square, easy access to the Grand Canal (and the vaporettos), and extremely helpful front desk. Rooms are comfortable and there is even a quad for families. Breakfast is delicious, including Italian tarts and croissants.

“Great location and Great value” - Orlando, Florida - 15 lug 2010
The word "value" can carry with it a connotation of being undesirable or cheap, but not in this instance. This hotel is a wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of Venice. I use the term "value" to mean that, while it is not cheap by any means, I felt like the location, service, and size of the room made me feel like I was actually getting a good deal. We travelled to Venice from Orlando with 2 teenage kids (14 and 11) and could not have been more pleased with this hotel. The staff was very friendly and made reservations for us at a few very good local places to eat. I would suggest getting lost in the side alleys of the Jewish Ghetto and then going into a restaurant, where you hear only Italian being spoken. Our kids loved the sights (Rialto Bridge, St. Marks Square etc) but will never forget the wonderful experience of getting lost in Venice! Don't bother taking the tour to Murano as the salesmen in the glass factory make used car dealers in the U.S. look like wall flowers.

“You will never want to leave!” - North Vancouver, BC - 15 lug 2010
My husband and I spent 2 nights at this hotel. When we arrived the w-ifi and free trip were not mentioned. After we got to our room I went down for the wi-fi password and was told it was a 2 Euro donation. No problem except I had to trek all the way back to my room to get my money. At the end of the first day we were told in passing about a free trip to an island to see a glass maker. If were told earlier we could have planned for it but sadly never had time. We were on the 2nd floor. We booked a deluxe room and got it: the room was huge and had a large tapestry on the wall and a painting on the ceiling. We had a canal view and the bathroom included a full tub/shower and a bidet! We only used the minibar to cool our wine. The bed was large and comfy. The breakfast that was included was great, fresh and lots of choice. The location is so easy to get to which is very rare in Venice where you can get lost in seconds. It's a 30 second walk right off the boat! It's also a 5 minute walk to San Marco square so if you are wandering around and get lost just find the signs for the square and you can find the hotel from there.

“Great location” - Donegal,Ireland - 10 lug 2010
Spent one night here before catching a cruise ship. Location could not be bettered at the price. Room had adequate space for a double and a single bed (two adults and one teenager). Staff were friendly and efficient. Continental breakfast was fine. Water taxis can pick you up at the back door - greetings to June and Joss who shared a taxi with us to the cruise terminal.

“Wonderful hotel, located in Venice as you dream off. Loved it.” -Ireland 7 lug 2010
Beautiful hotel, staff were lovely and very helpful. Located in a smallish piazza with a stunning church right beside it, so near varopetto stop, couldn't quite believe it. Walking distance to everywhere. Breakfast was fantastic, the air conditioning was super and such a relief to come back to after a long day exploring the intricit streets and wonderful sights of Venice. Double room was lovely with view out to canals. Only one complaint, we had to book a single room for first night because of change of booking and availability, it was way to small, but that’s the only complaint.

“The good, the bad and the ugly” - Healdsburg - 6 lug 2010
The Good-great location, easy to find and central to most everything you want to do. The Bad-the cleaning woman twice (not once!) put and left our toiletry kit in the bidet!!!! How gross is that and what was she thinking?! The Ugly-it's catered to Americans. If you can get past The Bad and Ugly, then it's a great place.

“Superb location” - Venezia, Italia - 6 lug 2010
It was our first trip to Venice and had no trouble finding our way to the hotel. The hotel gave us clear directions and tips on how to get to the hotel which has such an easy access with a vaporetto stop just steps away and practically, 5 min walk from San Marco Square, San Stefano Square - basically, the centre to everywhere - and yet on a quiet side. The Front Desk staff was always polite and helpful. We were given a Deluxe Room which has a lovely small balcony overlooking the side canal. The room was of good size - simple (decorated Venetian style) and clean. The bathroom was spacious and nicely equipped with a Jacuzzi bath, shower, hairdryer - quite impressive for a 3-star superior. Everything works. Efficient daily housekeeping service that our room was always done when we came back before heading out to dinner. Every morning we looked forward to enjoying their breakfast which offers excellent choices of cold cuts, breads, teas/coffee (even hot chocolate!), fruits and yoghurt. Anything and everything! We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to return.

“For Americans, a FANTASTIC location and nice amenities at a good price.” - Madison, Wisconsin - 4 lug 2010
My husband and I stayed at the Ala on the first leg of our honeymoon. We were travelling on a pretty limited budget. Having visited Venice (and much of Europe) before, I knew to expect small rooms, huge differences in bathroom standards, etc. Hotel Ala greatly exceeded my expectations, particularly at this “price” point. Its location was absolutely fantastic - situated very nicely on a quiet Piazza in between the Grand Canal and San Marco. It was only a 5 - 7 minute walk to Piazza San Marco from the Ala. Our breakfast every day was great - for Americans, expect a typical ITALIAN breakfast. It was delicious, but maybe some stuff you're not used to seeing at breakfast. There was plenty of seating in the very nice breakfast area. The room was very clean. It was small but well organized ,so as to not feel cramped. The bathroom was very nice (excellent water pressure in the shower and consistent water temperature in the spacious shower - these are sometimes luxuries in certain European hotels). There was also Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. We were on the very top level, and our reception was just fine. The Internet only cost 2 Euro for the whole stay, as well. The only negative comes from my husband as he says the bed was far too firm for his liking, as well as the pillows. However, the positives of this place in our general opinion, far outweigh a firmish bed. It didn't feel "chain-y" at all despite the Best Western ownership. The location simply can't be beat at this price and with the amenities, services, beautiful building provided. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Ala to anyone travelling to Venice, especially Americans, as I can most accurately judge the standards of amenities from that perspective. It was very nice, and I hope that on our next stay in Venice we'll be back to the Ala.

“Amazing” -Sydney - 3 lug 2010
Great location, beautiful rooms with amazing antiques. Water front back door, boat drove right up to it. 5 minute walk from Piazza San Marco. Very good all round the hotel

“Excellent hotel with a superb location...” Manchester - 29 giu 2010
Excellent hotel with a superb location. Lots of designer shops around, right in the heart of Venezia. Rooms were a little small but in these old buildings in Venice that's par for the course. Nicely presented and immaculately clean with a lovely and surprisingly sized bathroom. Air conditioning in the room almost silent but kept us at a nice cool temperature. Excellent breakfast massive choice all fresh and tasty would highly recommend trying the assortment of ham and salami. Really highly recommended.

“Our Home Away From Home” - New York, New York - 27 giu 2010
The ALA has become our home away from home! What makes it so special is not only its location -- it is picturesque Campo Santa Maria del Giglio -- close to the vaporetto stop, the traghetto (a gondola) across the Grand Canal to Dorsoduro and to Saint Mark's, the Fenice Theatre -- and its unique character! -- a wonderful, friendly, caring staff. The concergie (Mareno, Fabio, Alessandro, the two Stefanos and Luca) and all of the guys know about everything -- and owner/manager, Andrea Salmaso, who is one of the most thoughtful, kindest persons whom we have met in our travels through the years. He and his assistant, Silvia, are true gems! Now for some specifics -- let's start with the buffet breakfast. It is a feast and will keep you going for hours. Katja, Liana, Eleanora (and Alessandro and Farid) keep everything running smoothly! They are just great! When it rains, the hotel staff provides you with an umbrella and when acqua (the high water) alta arrives, a pair of boots. Nothing is overlooked. And their restaurant recommendations are excellent -- the family run, Al Bacareto has become a favorite. Then there is Tarnowska's -- a relaxing lounge with super hosts: Rey and Domenico -- where one can have a prosecco or an espresso, tea (they also serve a caprese salad and toast -- ham and cheese) after a day of sightseeing -- and there is so much to see in Venice. Walk and get lost and find your way back -- yes, there are tons of tourists -- but sometimes you must drift apart and find the serenity and mysterious beauty that only Venice has! Tarnowska's also has on-going art exhibits -- culture is indiginous to the Venetians. One doesn't need health clubs or pools -- just walk over the endless bridges and exercise your mind, body and soul! Our lovely room -- under the care of the lovely Yolanda -- with all the amenities for comfort (tub, shower, safe, mini-bar, air-conditioning, desk) faced the Campo and in the early morning -- when one opens the green shutters -- it seems as though a mini-operetta is taking place right before your eyes -- as the Campo comes to life -- the church bells ring, the kiosk opens, the t-shirt stall rolls in, the water colorist sets up his easel, the Venetians are walking to work with the grace that they alone bring to walking. It is an art in motion -- this sense of being Venetian. And in the evening, when you return to your room, sometimes, if you are lucky you will hear the voice of an angel singing in the Campo. On the Campo, there is the Church, the classy Ristorante del Giglio (don't miss it), a glass shop, a gllery, a textile boutique, an antique print shop and over on one bridge is the ALA's Ristorante da Raffaele -- run by Renato Salmaso -- it is on a canal and the gondolas float by as one dines al fesco on fine food in the soft and sensuous moonlight -- bliss! We have stayed at the ALA many times -- our last visit was for a month in May -- and we felt as though we were actually living in Venice. It can't get better than that! Our reflections are there somewhere, and I like to think they always will be!

“Fabulous breakfast, helpful staff, perfect location” New Haven, Connecticut-27 giu 2010
The breakfast was amazing; besides meat, cheese, various egg choices, there were a number of delicious cakes. My single room was attractive. It even had a small balcony overlooking a small canal, unexpected for a single room. The location couldn't be better: a short block to vaparetto, close to both San Marco and the Accademia Bridge. Staff was warm and helpful.

“Great Experience” -Southern California - 25 giu 2010
I relied heavily on the reviews when I booked our recent trip to Venice and I am glad I did! We stayed in a canal view room and it was fantastic. The room was bigger than I expected for Europe and the bathroom was very nice. The canal view was great as we could hear the gondoliers singing as they passed and the church bells. My wife really enjoyed that. The breakfast was also better than we had expected and something we really enjoyed. The hotel location is great. Only a few minutes from St. Mark's Square. Very convenient to the most popular sites. The hotel is right by the Giglio stop on the #1 Vaporetto line.

“We loved our stay at the Hotel Ala!” - Charleston, Carolina del Sud - 25 giu 2010
What a pleasant surprise it was to find that our hotel was right off the vaporetto stop! This after struggling with large suitcases (we were at the end of a 6-week stay in Italy) on the train and vaporetto. Our room had a balcony on a small canal and we were happily serenaded by gondola singers on several occasions. Magical. It was very quiet at night. The room itself was comfortable and clean, if small, and the bathroom spotless, well-lit and with a large tub-shower. I just wish European beds were softer -- my poor aching hips! The location is ideal, as others have already mentioned. The breakfast was amazing! They served a fruit tart worthy of dessert and good coffee (thank you!), plus pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurt, eggs, juices, etc. A great start to the day. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, arranging a gondola ride for the two of us that we immensely enjoyed. We tried the bar in the hotel, but after waiting 20 minutes with no response (after my husband went up and asked for service) we left. But it certainly didn't spoil our impression of the hotel and we hope to stay there again!

“Great Location, Great Service” - Jupiter, Florida 21 giu 2010
This hotel is the perfect location in Venice. It is right off boat line 1, Santa Maria del Giglio stop (2nd to last stop before St. Marks Square). You get off the boat, walk down the little alley and the hotel is right there! No searching or walking a long way with luggage trying to find your hotel. St Marks Square is just a short walk down the walkway with the high fashion shops. So close but not right in the noisy center. I have a friend who went the week before me and stayed right off of St. Marks Square. She complained that it was so noisy all night that they could not sleep. The service at ALA was extremely friendly. We took advantage of the free boat trip and tour to Murano glass factory. (They would like you to buy something of course, but there was no pressure - prices are very high but very beautiful one of a kind pieces. We were tempted but got away with just a necklace). Breakfast was very good. Typical of the other Best Western's we stayed at in Italy on this trip and Europe in general on other trips. We have such good luck with Best Westerns, we stay there whenever we can and plan to use them on our future trips.

“Location, quality, and service-- all excellent!” - Montville, NJ - 20 giu 2010
Hotel Ala is a 3-star superior hotel with a superior staff, and medium size comfortable rooms, very nice bathrooms and a good location. In a city where prices are the highest in Italy, the hotel offered value for the money and a real excellent location. If I were to rate this hotel, I would recommend it to any traveler wanting good quality and not wanting to pay the 500 euro per night of some of the 4 and 5 star hotels. A definite "best buy"!

“Hidden Treasure” - Washington D.C., District of Columbia - 20 giu 2010
I have stayed at the Hotel ALA three times. My stay there was always a pleasure. Get a room overlooking the canal very enchanting. Looking forward to another stay at the ALA.

“Good location, polite staff” -Finland - 18 giu 2010
We stayed at the hotel Ala 2 nights in Deluxe double room. The room was clean, comfortable and large (not huge). Well decorated and had 2 nice windows facing the "piazza". Bathroom was large and there was a Jacuzzi (which did not work). Staff were very polite and helpful. Breakfast was good. Nice selection of cereals, fruits, bread, cheeses, ham etc. Scrambled eggs was only warm dish. There is roof terrace at the top of the hotel, which was not mentioned anywhere. So we had opportunity to sit there together and alone, just me and my hubby Location was good, near to anywhere and it was very easy to find. The price and value meets well!
